"Let’s start with an undeniable historical fact: Familial-based occupancy laws were made to discriminate expressly against BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people. Some privileged white opponents of the Bedrooms Are For People Initiative claim: 'Our rule isn’t discriminatory because we define family fairly.'
Why is the state defining 'family'? This is discriminatory. The intent of our current version of familial-based occupancy was designed to discriminate against students, renters, and others defining households in their way. Opponents have said so. Which people are being discriminated against? The most vulnerable.
Let’s consider opponents four primary arguments made against this initiative."
